Who needs an NZeTA?
Citizens of visa-waiver countries, including the US, UK, EU countries, Canada, Japan and Singapore, who visit without a visa, all cruise ship passengers, and some passengers transiting through Auckland. Australian citizens don't need one; Australian permanent residents do.
Do US citizens need an NZeTA?
Yes. US citizens can visit without a visa for tourism or business, but need an approved NZeTA before boarding, and usually pay the tourism levy too.
I'm only transiting through Auckland. Do I need one?
If your passport allows visa-free transit, you need an NZeTA to transit through Auckland Airport, but you don't pay the tourism levy. Our passport check confirms it.
I'm arriving on a cruise ship. What do I need?
Cruise passengers of any nationality can travel on an NZeTA instead of a visa. Apply before you sail, and allow at least 72 hours for the decision.
How long is an NZeTA valid?
Up to two years, for multiple visits. If your passport expires sooner, the NZeTA ends with it.
How long does it take?
We review your application before submitting it. Immigration New Zealand asks you to allow up to 72 hours for its decision; some take longer, and nobody can speed that part up.
Do children need their own NZeTA?
Yes, every traveller needs their own, whatever their age. You can add the whole family to one application.
How is payment handled?
You can pay using a credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, where available, or supported local payment methods. We never see or store your full payment method details.
What if I don't need an NZeTA?
The passport check tells you before you pay, and you won't be charged anything. If you need a visa instead, we point you to the right official page.
